The Pan Pal is a pan player’s best tool for operation hence the name ‘Pal’. Designed by pan man Emile Borde, with significant contribution from Rocketdyne’s engineer Rodney Boudreaux PhD. A lifetime of playing pan inspired me to create a solution for the cumbersome issues surrounding transport and playing, and the need for more comfort and efficiency with these delicate handmade instruments. Ease of set up for performances at top venues demanded investment in the research that eventually led to this version, which meets the requirements of professional pannists whose inputs were critical to developing the ultimate workstation for their use. The Pan Pal has evolved from a box on wheels to an artistic expression of dedication and pride for the newest addition to musical instruments in the 20th century. The ‘Steel drums’ continue to spread magical tones of sunshine and harmony worldwide from their origin on the Caribbean Island of Trinidad & Tobago. Land of the Limbo, Carnival, Calypso, and Soca.
